Year End Recap and Live MTT Strategy with bigdogpckt5s and aznAllin007 (96:48)

We get a new TPE strategy podcast this week. KB and RFB are joined by Big Dog and Marc Alioto to discuss some live poker hands, the most interesting being this gem of a thread from Jludeobv. There are some differing opinions on how to play the hand as it is in a 3bet pot from early position at level 2 of a live tournament so ranges are really defined. Here is the original thread to follow along with all the info.

This week we have a new article about study habits and optimal study ratios that makes for very interesting and motivating reading. It pretty much does a cost benefit analysis at different levels of our poker evolution and offers insight into why we should be studying more or less in certain spots.

Andrew Brokos Premiere Series- TPE Theory: Hand Reading

We welcome TPE’s latest signing Andrew Brokos to the team, and he starts off with an impressive series on hand reading. The technique he uses is to categorize the opponent’s range into monsters, marginal and air/draw hands and we can use this to determine whether our or our opponent’s range gets stronger throughout the hand. The first part is entirely theoretical and covers all of the underlying assumptions we are working with and how to define the hand types. The 2nd part is an application of what we covered in part one and contains in depth hand examples across multiple streets of betting. Andrew has an incredibly clear and simple way of explaining things and this series is a must watch for anyone struggling with hand reading or post flop play.

Ben Hayes continues his HM2 series this time delving into the report functions, which I’m sure a lot of people tend to neglect. He shows us how to break down our stats by position and determine our profitability by position and also with different parts of our range. He also looks at our bb/100 win rate from different stack sizes, which is useful in determining any leaks in our mid stack, full stack or short stack game. This series is leak fixing gold!
